Located on the Rolling Plains of West Texas, Ludlum Measurements, Inc. has been designing
and manufacturing quality radiation detection equipment for the Health Physics Industry since 1962. Our philosophy
is to provide a quality product that meets the customers needs at a competitive price. Through the years the health
physics industry and our line of products have grown to the point that we now serve customers in many different
industries including the oil industry, new and recycled metals industry, university and medical research labs,
and numerous local, state, and federal agencies. |
| Our manufacturing facility, located in Sweetwater, Texas, is fully integrated and offers our customers a full
line of products and services. Product research and development is done by a competent staff of electrical, mechanical,
nuclear, and chemical engineers. Our full service machine shop offers state of the art equipment for all types
of material handling and manipulation. Once parts are machined and finished, they move to our assembly plant for
assembly of the product before final checkout and calibration are completed and the instrument is shipped to the
customer. We also offer a fully capable repair and calibration department for the recertification of the instruments
as required, and the occasional repair due to component failure. This facility is capable of repairing and calibration
many different brands of instruments along with our own. |

The primary product that we offer is the portable general purpose survey meter. This is a small, lightweight
meter that can operate a multitude of different detectors. Due to its design it is not only lightweight and compact,
but also quite rugged allowing it to last for a long time. Some of the features that have made us unique through
the years include our casting with a separate sealed battery compartment. This protects the delicate electronics
from the hazards of battery failure, and also allows the user to easily and quickly change batteries without disassembling
the instrument. Our instrument are also provided with built in audio circuits instead of having them as an option.
Another unique feature of our portables is the rugged aluminum meter bezel with tempered glass for protection of
the meter. A look at the pictures to the left can show the development of our most popular portable, the Model
3, through the years. |
At Ludlum Measurements, Inc. our primary goal is to maintain the highest quality standards possible while keeping
the price as competitive as possible. As an example the meter above in 1962 sold for approximately $ 280.00. Today
it sells for $425.00. In over 38 years through redesigns to combat obsolescence, and reduce the cost of production,
the sales price has increased by less than 60%. If our instrument prices were to keep up with inflation like automobiles,
they would cost in excess of $1200.00.
